Where we are today
Painter’s Vineyard is a small family-owned and operated vineyard in Blisworth, Northamptonshire. The vineyard was planted in 2011, on a south-facing slope overlooking a portal of the Blisworth-Stoke Bruerne tunnel on the Grand Union canal.
The soil, which is largely ironstone spoil from when the canal and tunnel were dug at the end of the C18th, is free-draining and the sheltered site is ideal for the production of high quality sparkling wines.
The vines planted are Pinot noir, a classic red-skinned grape and Seyval blanc, a white variety. These enable us to produce both white and rosé sparkling wines, called Stonyfield for obvious reasons.
Our first wine, a 2013 rosé, won a gold medal in the Mercian Vineyards Association regional wine tasting and was rated Highly Recommended (score 90/100) by Decanter Magazine (August 2016 issue).
