Award Day

It’s been an exciting week at Stonyfield:  we have been awarded a Gold Medal and the Dudley Quirk Memorial Trophy for the Best English Sparkling Wine Blend by WineGB, the national association for wine growers in England and Wales.

The competition was judged by Oz Clarke and Susie Barrie MW and there were hundreds of entrants from across the country.  The prizes, and certainly the Trophy, usually go to the more established growers in the south so it was a bit of a surprise for us, and maybe for WineGB when Stonyfield won.  We are the smallest - and we think the most northerly - ever to get this accolade.

Thursday was  Award Day - kindly presented by Jonathan Lewis, with Simon Thorpe and Julia Trustram Eve from Wine GB also present.  We invited along some of our friends and neighbours who have been with us since the start  and of course our winemaker, Clive from Halfpenny Wine Estates.  A jolly (covid secure) time was had.

We had a lot of local interest including ITV Anglia, BBC Radio Northampton and Chronicle and Echo.  Links below:

We are now busy replying to orders, setting up our online shop and sorting out distribution.

The only member of the team not so pleased with all the fuss was Monty.  His tendency to leap and lick anyone who arrives had to be curtailed and he spent most of the time in his crate.  A long walk and a treat in the evening seemed to make up for it though.
